The Official Rules of the New Britain Civic Association’s Photo Contest


"Views of Covered Bridge Park”

We want to see pictures that represent and express your interactions, observations, impressions of Covered Bridge Park from within it or from the immediate vicinity, including the covered bridge!


The New Britain Civic Association.

The New Britain Civic Association’s mission is to work with the residents, businesses and governments of New Britain Borough and the surrounding municipalities to enhance the physical, cultural, historical, environmental, recreational, and social resources of our community. This is primarily accomplished by maintaining the Covered Bridge Park for recreation purposes and working with area institutions and organizations to promote enjoyment of the Park.


The Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers. Youth category includes photographers under the age of 15.



 The Photo Contest begins at 12:00am EST on October 2, 2017 and ends at 3pm EST on September 15, 2018 (the “Entry Period”).

 Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible. Sponsor’s computer is the official time-keeping device for the Photo Contest.

Judging Criteria

Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit

 All photographs must be accurate reflections of the subject matter and scenes as they appeared in real life.

 Image alterations must be limited to standard optimization (spot removal, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, dodging and burning, highlight and shadow enhancement, etc.). Anything extended beyond will be disqualified.



The following prizes will be awarded:

 One (1) Overall grand prize winner will receive: $100.00 and a framed version of the winning entry.

 One (1) Adult 2nd place entry will receive $75.00.

 One (1) Youth 2nd place entry will receive $75.00.

 Five (4) Overall honorable mention winners will receive $20.00 each.

The New Britain Civic Association shall determine entry eligibility at its sole and absolute discretion.

All entries :

 Must be for sale. Please place a realistic price on all images. The New Britain Civic Association will retain 40% of the selling price. These monies are used for the maintenance of the Covered Bridge Park, and the promotion of its activities in the community.

 Must be submitted as an 8.5 X 11 print.

 Must be mounted on acid free board.

 Must be a physical print in color and/or black and white, inkjet prints or “traditional” photographic color and/or black and white prints.

 The first entry must include a $10.00 non-refundable fee. Every image there-after up to and limited to a total of 5 must include a $5.00 entry fee.

 If submitting the maximum of 5 entries the total entry fee is $30 dollars.  Make checks payable to: The New Britain Civic Association.

 Entrants must be living. No work of deceased artists will be accepted.

 Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see "Your Rights" below). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to The New Britain Civic Association upon request.

 If there are people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary model releases from the individuals depicted, and you must be able to provide copies of those releases.(sample release is available online with the entry form).

The Civic Association reserves the right to reject any entry if, in The New Britain Civic Association’s sole discretion, the laws of an applicable jurisdiction that would prohibit or limit The New Britain Civic Association’s from proceeding with the Contest as intended or the consideration or awarding of any Prize.

The following submissions are ineligible:

 Digital images files will not be accepted.

 Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's rights, including but not limited to copyright and photographs of persons without the necessary consent. The New Britain Civic Association reserves the right to require entrants to submit evidence of the subject’s legal consent to be photographed for the submitted photograph, which may include a signed waiver from the subject. NOTE: Entrants are responsible for obtaining a legally enforceable waiver from any person photographed.

 Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable or inappropriate content.

 Images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife, or damage to the environment by the photographer.

 Images that involve putting any individual or animal in danger.

Important Dates

 Entries must be received by: Friday September 15, 2017 by 4pm delivered to: o 45 Keeley Ave. New Britain, PA. 18901

 Photo submission runs from 6/20/17 thru 9/15/17.

 Judging will occur from 9/16 —9/29.

 Award Day and Sale: Saturday September 30, 2017 noon to 5pm at Covered Bridge Park. 229 Keeley Ave. New Britain, Pa. 18901 Exhibition Date Open to the Public

 All unsold pictures must be picked up by Saturday September 30th at 5pm. at the Covered Bridge Park. Unclaimed images become property of the New Britain Civic Association.

Applications must be filled out completely including all required fields, including name, email and other information about your photo submission.

All judging decisions are final. Please do not contact us about the status of entries or judging.

Winners will be notified by The New Britain Civic Association via the contact information provided at the time of entry.


Your photographs will help The New Britain Civic Association raise money for Covered Bridge Park’s amazing diversity of wildlife, people, plants and habitats. Thank you for helping to further our mission through your photography.

You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership if applicable.

If you submit a photograph to enter the Photo Contest, you grant The New Britain Civic Association a 5 year royalty-free, nonexclusive right to:

 Display the photograph

 Allow third-parties to share the photograph on social media.

 Use the photograph on the Internet and in Social Media in support of our mission.

 Use, in connection with the Photo Contest, your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications

The New Britain Civic Association will endeavor to credit all photographs with the caption "Person's Name" when the full name is available.


In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Photo Contest is impaired in any way, Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, either: (a) suspend the Photo Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Photo Contest; or (b) award the prize(s) from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and seek damages from any individual who tampers with the operation of the Photo Contest, violates these Official Rules, or acts in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. Proof of sending any communication to Sponsor by mail shall not be deemed proof of receipt of that communication by Sponsor. In the event of a dispute as to the owner of an entry, the authorized account holder of the e-mail address used to enter will be deemed to be the owner. The Photo Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.


By entering, you agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Photo Contest or receipt or use of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the Photo Contest; (b) technical errors; (c) printing errors; (d) late or undelivered mail; (e) errors in the administration of the Photo Contest; or (f) injury or damage to persons or property. You waive the right to claim any attorneys’ fees and any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.
